History

One of Glendale’s most important historical sites, Sahuaro Ranch Park is a living museum. The 17-acre park features 13 historic buildings, a rose garden, several citrus groves, and free-roaming peacocks. Guided tours are available throughout the year.

The adobe house, foreman’s house, barnyard, and main house are among the structures you will see on the farm, which was built by William Henry Bartlett in 1886. He was from Peoria, Illinois, and came to Arizona hoping the dry air would cure his tuberculosis.

Visitors are encouraged to stroll the grounds, visit the chickens and peacocks, and picnic in the ramadas. The park also hosts events throughout the year, from art shows to heritage festivals.

Facilities

The City of Glendale maintains 17 acres of the former Sahuaro Ranch as a historic area and recreational park. The site features a variety of historic structures, a rose garden, citrus groves, and free-roaming peacocks. There are also picnic areas, a playground, and sporting fields. Other City facilities such as the Glendale Public Library and Xeriscape Demonstration Garden are within walking distance.

Founded in 1886 by William Henry Bartlett, the 640-acre farm was once rich with fig and other fruit orchards, vineyards, and fields of alfalfa. The completion of the Arizona Canal in 1885 opened desert lands to homesteading and farming.

Today, the reconstructed historic buildings of Sahuaro Ranch are open for guided tours. The adobe house, foreman’s house, and packing shed have been restored to the way they looked in the early 1900s. The grounds of the historic area are maintained by the City of Glendale and the Sahuaro Ranch Historical Society. The park has a number of other facilities, including the Xeriscape Demonstration Gardens and Joe Tyler’s Veterans Memorial on the front lawn. This article is worth reading.

Pets allowed

The park is dog friendly and has plenty of room for off-leash play. It has a separate area for small dogs and large breeds. It also has water fountains, waste stations, and benches. The park gets crowded on the weekends.

The property was once home to fig and other fruit orchards, vineyards, a dairy farm, and homes of early pioneers. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The fenced grounds include 13 historic structures, including an adobe house, barnyard, and foreman’s house. The park also has a garden and citrus groves.

Many pet owners struggle to find a place where they can take their dogs while traveling. Often, they are greeted with a “no pets allowed” policy or an egregious pet fee when trying to book lodging. Fortunately, Glendale, AZ has lots of hotels and Airbnb rentals that are pet friendly. You can visit Kiss the Cook for breakfast and comfort food, or Haus Murphy’s for German beer and food.

Events

The Historic Sahuaro Ranch Park hosts events across the year, ranging from art shows to heritage festivals. These are often free of charge and a great way to learn more about the Valley’s history. There are also many playgrounds and sports recreation areas.

This park is very large and has both a historic section and a regular park area. The historic section features historic buildings, gardens, and orchards, which are open for tours. It also has a large number of citrus trees that smell wonderful in the spring. You can also find peacocks roaming the grounds.

The Historic Sahuaro Ranch is also a popular place for weddings. The Glendale Historical Society facilitates wedding ceremonies in the rose garden and palm groves, and the 1898 Guest House is available for use. The society offers affordable wedding packages that include exclusive use of the Rose Garden for four hours and access to the Guest House. Click here for the next blog post.
